Washer & Dryer Installation in a Los Angeles home

$135 to $245 typical for washer install with new hoses

Quick answer

Washer and dryer installation covers removing shipping bolts, fitting new fill hoses, routing the drain hose into the existing standpipe, connecting the dryer to the existing outlet or gas shutoff with a new connector, attaching a short rigid or semi-rigid vent, stacking where needed and leveling. We do not add circuits or plumbing. Call with both model numbers and we price it first.

We repair Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, Bosch, Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador and the other names found in Valley kitchens and laundry rooms.

The short version

Why laundry installs go wrong

A washer that shakes across the floor, a dryer that takes two cycles, and a drain that siphons water during the fill are all installation problems more often than part failures. The new machines are fine. The setup is not.

Front-load washers ship with transit bolts that lock the drum. Leave one in and the first spin can damage the tub. Dryers arrive without a power cord or with no gas connector, and the vent hose bundled in many boxes is a foil type that crushes behind the machine.

We handle laundry installs from start to finish on existing hookups. We pull the shipping bolts, fit new hoses, set the drain height and connect the dryer cord or gas connector. Then we build a short vent run and level the pair on all four feet.

What we hook up and adjust

Every laundry install follows the same checklist. We adjust it for front-load, top-load, stacked or side-by-side machines and for electric or gas dryers. Nothing on it involves new circuits or new plumbing.

  • Remove transit boltsWe pull every shipping bolt from front-load washers and fit the plugs before the first spin.
  • New braided fill hosesHot and cold hoses go on new, with fresh washers, to the existing valves.
  • Drain hose heightWe set the drain hose into the existing standpipe at the right depth and secure it so it cannot pop out.
  • Dryer cord or gas connectorElectric dryers get the correct cord for the existing outlet, and gas dryers get a new connector to the existing shutoff.
  • Short, rigid vent runWe replace foil hose with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct, keeping it as short and straight as the space allows.
  • Stacking kitWe fit the stacking kit made for your models and secure the dryer to the washer.
  • Leveling and lock nutsWe level front to back and side to side, then tighten the lock nuts on each foot.
  • Remove old machinesWe disconnect, drain and haul away the old washer and dryer.

Step by step

How a washer and dryer install visit runs

Every visit follows the same order, so you always know what comes next and what it costs.

  1. Call ahead

Phone any hour with both model numbers and where the laundry sits. We confirm the outlet type and hookups.

  2. Hookup check

We check the water valves, standpipe, outlet or gas shutoff and the wall vent before connecting.

  3. Price and install

You hear the price before work starts, then we remove the old pair and set the new one.

  4. Leak and vent check

We check every water joint and confirm strong airflow at the outside vent hood.

  5. Test run

We run a rinse and spin on the washer and a timed heat cycle on the dryer.

Symptoms

Install mistakes we fix on laundry pairs

  • Washer walks during spinUneven feet, loose lock nuts or a leftover shipping bolt let the machine rock and travel.
  • Water drains during fillA drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe siphons water out as the washer fills.
  • Dryer takes two cyclesA long, crushed or foil vent behind the dryer chokes airflow and doubles drying time.
  • Burnt smell from a new dryerA loose cord terminal block connection heats up and can damage the dryer if left alone.
  • Leaks at the fill valveOld rubber hoses reused on a new washer or missing washers in the fittings cause slow drips.
  • Stack wobblesA stacking kit not matched to the models, or skipped brackets, leaves the dryer loose on top.
Here in the Valley

Garage laundry in Valley ranch homes

Across Sun Valley, Panorama City, Reseda and Van Nuys, laundry often sits in the attached garage of a 1950s ranch home. Those garages run very hot on 100°F summer days. The dryer vent may cross the garage wall at an odd height or run through a long, sagging duct.

When we install in a garage, we pay extra attention to the vent. We shorten the run where we can, use rigid metal, and check the outside hood flap swings open. We also level on garage slabs that slope toward the door, which takes more adjustment than a laundry room floor.

Worth weighing

Stacked or side by side

Stacking saves floor space and suits closets in condos and apartments. It works only with front-load washers and companion dryers that share a stacking kit, and the controls end up high. Check that everyone in the home can reach the top controls comfortably.

Side by side gives you a folding surface on top and easier access to the dryer. If the laundry room allows it, a side-by-side pair is simpler to service later. Send us both model numbers and the space measurements and we will tell you what fits.

Before you call

Prepare for your laundry install

Safe checks only. If anything smells hot, sparks or involves gas, stop and call.

  • Check whether the dryer outlet behind the machines has three or four slots and tell us when you call.
  • Make sure the hot and cold valves turn easily and are not leaking.
  • Clear lint from the wall vent opening and check the outside vent flap.
  • Measure the closet or alcove width, depth and door opening.
  • Keep the washer's transit bolts after we remove them in case you move.
Questions

Washer & Dryer Installation questions we hear in Los Angeles

Do you remove the shipping bolts during washer and dryer installation?

Yes. Front-load washers ship with transit bolts that lock the drum in place. During washer and dryer installation we remove every bolt and fit the plugs. Spinning a washer with a bolt still in can damage the tub and suspension.

Does washer and dryer installation include the dryer cord?

Many electric dryers ship without a cord. For washer and dryer installation we bring the correct three or four prong cord to match the existing outlet and connect it at the terminal block. We do not change the outlet itself, which is electrical work.

Can you install a gas dryer during washer and dryer installation?

Yes, when there is an existing gas shutoff at the laundry. We fit a new flexible gas connector from that shutoff to the dryer and leak-test it. If there is no gas stub, adding one is work for a plumbing contractor, not part of our installation.

Why do you replace the foil vent during washer and dryer installation?

Foil and vinyl vent hose crushes easily and traps lint, which slows drying and builds heat. During washer and dryer installation we use rigid or semi-rigid metal duct kept as short and straight as the space allows, so the dryer can push air out without restriction.

Can you stack the pair during washer and dryer installation?

Yes. We stack front-load washers and dryers when both models accept the same stacking kit. We fit the kit, secure the dryer and level the pair. If your models are not designed to stack, we will tell you rather than build an unstable tower.

How long does washer and dryer installation take?

A standard side-by-side washer and dryer installation usually takes one to two hours. Stacked pairs in tight closets and gas dryers take a little longer. Removing the old machines and fixing a poor vent run can add time.
